In what will be called the headiest off-season move in NCAA football (unless Ricky Williams finds a way to return for a fifth year), Mitch Mustain has decided to take his blue chip arm (and his heavily involved momma) out to Cali to play with the rest of the blue chippers that Pete Carroll is stock piling in Los Angeles.
ESPN has confirmed that Mustain will be on the USC campus this summer for classes and will be eligible to play in ‘08…and Carroll didn’t even have to hire his HS coach as an Offensive Coordinator! What a deal!
Mustain went 8-0 as a starter for the Arkie Razorbacks before the most epic Athletics Department meltdown of all time forced he and couple of his fellow freshmen to flee Fayett-nam like their hair was on fire. Four of the “Springdale Five” (so named because they came from Springfield HS) are no longer on campus and Gus Malzahn (their HS coach who was named Offensive Coordinator for UA) has taken the same position at the University of Tulsa…not exactly a step up career wise.
If you’re not familiar with the saga that has unfolded at UA over the past year with Houston Nutt and Frank Broyles, suffice to say very few parents who don’t live in Arkansas and married outside their family will be eager to send their youngsters to play for the Razorbacks any time soon.
