Hump-Day Quick Hits

by Stamos on June 6, 2007

So we at Brahsome.com try to keep our readers in the loop about the big stories that come out of the sports, entertainment, and music worlds. Sometimes, however, there are stories that aren’t so much strong to quite strong as they are much better suited for lazy one-liners… which, shocklingly enough, are our forte. So, here’s some tidbits that may have otherwise fallen through the cracks. First up, Kevin Durant, and his dominating NBA workout. The near-certain #2 pick in the draft laid quite an egg as he tested the worst of the 78 players invited, and failed to bench press 185 even once (though he looks diesel in this picture). We overheard Boxy calling him a puss from the weight room at Gold’s last night.

Billy Donovan and the Magic have apparently reached an agreement allowing him to return to Florida to coach, with the contingency that he not coach in the NBA for at least 5 years. We can’t back Donovan’s move at all because, just like with smoking, our daddies taught us to never be a quitter.

With 74 year old Trent Green set to take over in South Beach, the Phins are looking to deal Culpepper. Surely there’s a line out the door for a running QB with scrambled eggs for knees.

Lightening struck last night as Rudy Guiliani was answering a question regarding his views on abortion. Looks like the big guy upstairs is voting Democrat this year.

This week marked the 40th anniversary of the Beatles release of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. One of the best albums of all time, it reminds us that the 60s was a time when it was cool to eat a shit-load of acid and write songs about marmalade skies and kaleidascope eyes (painting by Julian Lennon, which is said to have inspired the song Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, seen above). Wait… we did a little of that last weekend, and it’s still pretty cool.

That Trent Green picture is egg-cellent. Oh jeebus.

Rehab is for quitters.

Hopefully Durant’s bench press performance will effect his game as much as VY’s wonderlic score effected his.

That being said, that shit is pretty embarrassing. I think 79/80 were able to lift it.

Rick Barnes’ quote is pretty awesome.

“If they are looking for weight lifters to come out of Texas, that’s not what we’re producing. There are a lot of guys who can bench press 300 pounds in the NBA who couldn’t play dead in a cowboy movie.”

I just wish this would cause Celtics fans to start freaking out and thinking that he might drop.

The bench press, to me, isn’t half as important as that flat out embarrassing no-step vertical.
