Alpo Signs Vick To Endorsement Deal

by C. Brahkowski on July 18, 2007

That’s obviously not true.

As you know by now, Vick was indicted over that whole dog fighting thing. So…what does that do to his fantasy football draft stock? When do you take Vick?

As my fellow blahger said last night as we read the words “Michael Vick indicted” coming across the bottom of the screen, “touchdowns are still worth 6 points, I’ll take him in the fifth.” He laughed but was he kidding? Will Vick even play the whole season? Iron-fist Goodell could end up suspending him a few games for the puppy parties. ESPN.com is reporting that his court date will force him to miss the first day of training camp, so the Falcons could even end up suspending him. Let’s discuss this guy for second.

Care To Get Nice?

What the hell happened to Ron Mexico? Ron was so hyped coming out of college that some thought he could revolutionize the quarterback position. He’s only passed for over 2,500 yards once in his career and that was 2002. He was 22nd in passing yards in 2006 with 2474 and the Falcons were two games short of the .500 mark. We all know he can run. He’s always been able to run. But it seems that rather than progress into a dual-threat QB that revolutionized the position, Vick remains a run-first, super-athlete that is pretty fun to watch.

While his athleticism is unquestioned, the mental aspect might be up for debate. Apparently good decision making’ wasn’t stressed in the Vick household. Dogfighting. Herpes. Giving the bird (you know the finger? yes, Goose, I know the finger) to his own fans. The whole airport/water bottle non-issue issue. The point is he probably wasn’t a Bio-Chemical Engineering major at VaTech. I’m not saying the guy is an idiot, although I might be, but let’s put it this way…he’s good at finding other things to concentrate on than developing as a player. Which then also brings his desire into question.

And what about his family? If he gets locked up, who will support Marcus? At least, if Mike goes to prison, he won’t have to deal with the whole “don’t drop the soap” thing, as I don’t think any of those guys want the herp.

Normally this is the part of my ‘Vick is over-rated’ rant that I go into the “VY will one day be the player everyone thought Vick would be” portion, but the Titans didn’t do dick this off-season to help him. They lost their leading rusher and leading receiver to free agency (Travis Henry and Drew Bennett, respectively). Their receiver with the most experience is David Givens and he had knee surgery in November. Chris Brown and LenDale White are fighting for the starting spot at RB, neither of whom are really striking fear into the hearts of defenses. It should be noted though, that VY won more games in 2006 than Vick did…as a rookie…and didn’t start the first 4 games. I’m just saying.

As long as I’m talking about QBs I’ll plug Stamos’ boy Phil Rivers as a guy who is poised to have another good year. In his first year as a starter he had 22 TDs and his 3388 yards were good for 9th in the league. And he has TD machine Ladanian Tomlinson in the backfield with him, which doesn’t suck. With Schottenheimer gone and Norv Turner coming in there might be a small amount of ‘get to know you time,’ but the Chargers were a league best 14-2 last year, so it’s not like Norv is coming in to rebuild.

Alright. That’s all I got.

It was all downhill after the title.

Not that your writing was bad. It was actually quite good….it’s just that the title was unreal. I was dying laughing out loud. Simple, yet effective. Props.
