A Brahphet Amongst Men

by C. Brahkowski on August 3, 2007

Finally, a religion that I can back.

Rev. Craig X Rubin, 41, might be spending the next four years, eight months in prison for possessing marijuana for sale, according to Jane Robison, a district attorney’s spokeswoman.

Rubin and about 400 members of Temple 420 burn and smoke pot during services and believe that marijuana is a religious sacrament, citing examples from the Old and New Testament. The church, founded in 2006, even holds their services at 4:20 on Saturday and Sunday.

The good reverend (who moonlights as an actor on Showtimes’ “Weeds”) has been an ordained minister since 1990. He was ordained by the Universal Life Church (an institution willing to make a holy man of anyone who pays the fee) and has been spreading the good word ever since.

According to the article in the Houston Chronicle (chronic!) the Brahphet will not appeal the decision.

“If my society believes I’m a danger and a threat, it’s better off without me,” he said. “Hopefully people will be nice to me inside. I barely ever had a ticket before.”

Apparently Brahphet Rubin is attempting to debunk the idea that marijuana decreases your sex drive as he and his wife have 7 children, whom he hikes with on the weekends and reads to every night.

A devoted father of 7 who reads to his children and spends time with them outside…he definitely sounds like someone we need to lock up.
