These Go To Eleven: Best Video Games of All Time
Nov 28th, 2007 by The Piler
Every week on The Brown Hour each Brah brings you a Top 5 list from a new category, which we turn into a Top 11 list. On last night’s show, we channeled our inner gamer to bring you our Top 5 Video Games of All Time. You can listen to last night’s show by clicking on the Now Live link on the upper right portion of the Blahg. With Stamos still traipsing his way through New Zealand, we were left with Kyle, Piler and Bstone’s choices. Apparently, our video game growth was stunted, as only 3 of the 11 choices debuted in this millenium. I prefer to think of us as video game purists. I’m actually about to dust off my original NES and relive my childhood. With out further ado, Brahsome’s Top 10, errr, 11 video games of all time.
11. Golden Tee - Piler. Greatest bar game of all time.
10. Mario Golf- Bstone. My pile in college revolved around Mario Golf and Tennis.
9. Double Dribble - CalmerThanYouAre. Must have been the only game CTYA had growing up.
8. Madden 2001- Bstone. Madden needs no introduction.
7. Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball- Piler. Spent a lot of my childhood playing this game. Ron Gant was clearly on ‘roids.
6. Guitar Hero 3- Bstone. Knowing Bstone, it was pretty much guaranteed that what ever he was currently playing would make his list. (Ed. Note - I will be demanding a retraction/apology post when Piler finds himself in his parents basement at 3:00 a.m. on a Saturday night wailing to Ryan Adams on a plastic Gibson Wii guitar in a few months. Waaaay better than crack. Trust me, I know.)
5. Super Mario Brothers 3- CTYA. This video is some beast beating the game in 11 minutes. Wow.
4. NBA Live 2001- Bstone. I’m pretty sure this game is why Bstone failed out of college the first, second and quite possibly the third time. (Ed. Note: No, just the first two. See #11 for the third time.)
3. Super Mario 64- Piler. This game ushered in the the 3D era. Classic.
2. Tecmo Super Bowl- CTYA & Piler. Bo Jackson was unstoppable.
1. Contra- CTYA & Piler. Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left Right, B, A, Start…

This list sucks without Super Mario Kart, just sayin
Obviously it’s not the “greatest video games of all time” list. It’s our favorite video games of all time then compiled into one list. And there was a bunch of stuff that was honorable mention including Mario Kart (didn’t make my list because you can only play it so long - also why I didn’t put Contra on there).
Contra code is actually up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, UP AND start
I don’t think so, Andy. IIRC, it’s up up down down left right left right b a b a select start.
Attention donkey retro-gamers: Contra did NOT require “select” in any portion of “the code”. Up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, start.
And Mario Kart 64 could be played until your hands fell off, unlike SMK.
WCW vs. nWo brought fist fights in the four player battle royal mode in my basement.
Intelevsion’s Burger Time.
Sega Master System’s Wonder Boy series.
Hot Shots Gold series.
Gold = Golf
Justy, et al, select = 2 player option in code.
