These Go To Eleven: Best Concerts

by Stamos on December 12, 2007

Back again with our weekly These Go To Eleven column.  Our version of a top 10 list, this week’s edition focuses on the best concerts that the brahs have had the pleasure of seeing.  If you want to hear each guy’s personal top 5, check out the Brown Hour from last night. It’s full of Brahsomely goodness. Anywho, the Club MTV tour with co-headliners C&C Music Factory and Taylor Dayne from 1991 that Stamos may or may not have attended did not make the list.  And awaaaaaay we go!

11. WSP Charlotte, NC 7/27/07 (Stamos)- First time Stamos saw them with Jimmy Herring, and it just blew his doors -this is a video of Second Skin from that show. In fact, Stamos went to college with the guy with the chin goatee at 48 seconds even though he had nothing to do with the making of this video. How brahsome.

10. Ween and Colonel Claypool’s Bucket of Bernie Brains, Jazzfest 2002(CTYA) – Your standard New Orleans debauchery coupled with the Boognish and the face melting funk of C2B3.

9. Wilco Charlottesville, VA 10/20/07 (BStone)- This might be the coolest produced Youtuber I’ve ever seen. And about the 1:47 mark you will see why I think Nels Cline seems like a drunken Brit.

8. Red Hot Chili Peppers Raleigh, NC 2000 (Piler)- Snunk into a box upfront. Californication tour. Rocked out the classics too.

7. WSP Charlotte, NC 7/19/98 (BStone)- I was a soooooo close to Schools in 98

6. Phish Prague, Czech Republic 7/5/98 (CTYA) – Two friends and I went to Europe after graduation to do the heady backpack thing. Seeing our favorite band behind the Iron Curtain was truly a brahsome experience. Small theater. Sicky jams.

5. Ween Raleigh, NC at Disco Rodeo 4/12/06 (Piler). First Ween show. Went as a casual fan, left a fanatic. So pumped about the Brah field trip to Carolina Theater in January.

4. Jimmy Page with Black Crowes Raleigh, NC 7/4/1999 (Stamos)- I love the Black Crowes, and I love Jimmy Page, and I love the 4th of July. Great, great combination.

3. Phish Big Cypress, FL 12/31/99 (CTYA)- Midnight to 8am show. Give me a break. Hippies who didn’t pace themselves were dropping like flies.

2. McCallie/Chattanooga 1997 (BStone)- There were some great bands that played my high school. Actually Panic played there in 1992-93. The most amazing thing is the attendance numbers (460 for Panic, 1300 for P-Funk). Highlights include George Clinton having those of us in charge carry his tackle box [full of drugs] from the airport and then telling us to go get him ’some Mountain Dew, some peanut butter crackers and some baking soda’. I mentioned he called me ‘dawg’ right? Oh, and if you don’t do anything for the rest of the day, watch the mothership land in this video from Asheville 1996, Gutman.”

1. Phish Greensboro, NC 3/1/03 (Stamos and Piler)- Best Phish Show Ever. This video is a little chopped up, but it’s from that show, and the light stick war during Divided Sky that this guy got on film was too good to pass up. When Trey caught the one about 3:23 in, I thought the place was going to explode.

Been to some shows you think were better than these? Holler at your boys.

great list. i’m a bit miffed that 7/27/07 got the nod ahead of the next night in charlotte. i’ll take the 2nd night of charleston this past panic tour over both though.

the flaming lips and My Morning Jacket both put on legendary Bonaroo performances circa 2003 or 2004.

My favorite Panic show was in Columbus, OH in 2001. (that was in the travelin’ days!)
11/04/01 PromoWest Pavilion, Columbus, OH
1: Disco > Fishwater, Little Kin, Heaven, Rebirtha > Space Wrangler, Machine > Barstools and Dreamers, Blackout Blues

2: Sometimes, Heroes, It Ain’t No Use > The Waker > Down > Surprise Valley > Drums > Junco Partner > Impossible > Love Tractor

E: Trouble, Thought Sausage

['Satisfied' rap during 'Barstools and Dreamers']

Charlie- the 2nd night in Charlotte might have been a better show, but Stamos went a little too large the first night and therefore wasn’t in as good a position to enjoy the 2nd night as much as the first.
