Morning Wood: Are You Serious?

by The Piler on January 2, 2008

lc.jpgWell, the holidays are over and it’s back to the grind.  Unless, of course, you are Lloyd Carr and without a job following his Capital One Bowl victory over the Florida Gators on New Years Day.  Carr was fired resigned and is retiring.  He was fairly successful in his run at Michigan, with a National Championship, but couldn’t handle beating Ohio State which was ultimately his downfall.  I don’t feel too bad for they guy,  he’s made bank, won a title and he gets to pile in luxury for his remaining days.  Oh yeah, he won the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Award.  I was at little get together New Years Eve at Fancy Pants’ and a wench who shall not be named’s house.  Most of the guys were watching football while getting their black on.  At halftime of one of the games they were presenting the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year and it was none other than Lloyd Carr.  There was a feeling of utter bewilderment in the room.

My first thought was, “this has to a lifetime achievement award.”  For reference sake, last years winner was Jim Grobe, who took the all time most losing team in college football history to the Orange Bowl.  This year we have a guy who let a I-AA team, no offense Stamos, come into one the most storied venues in college football and beat his Wolverines.  Then they ran the table lost the next weekend to Oregon.  Finally, in a game that could have prolonged his career, they lost to Ohio State.  They basically ran Lloyd out of town with a lynch mob.  Ladies and Gentlemen, your 2007 Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Mr. Lloyd Carr.  I think Chuck Amato was just retroactively awarded the 2006 award.  Has there ever been a bigger pity award?  Maybe when Karl Malone won MVP because people were tired of giving it to Jordan.  But seriously, when they announced it, I thought I had already completely blacked out and it was only 9:00.
