Rusted Root Rocked Raleigh
Mar 26th, 2008 by C. Brahkowski
My lady and I went to the Lincoln Theatre last night for some sicky tribal rock. By tribal rock, I mean the Pittsburgh sextet known as Rusted Root. And the shit was hot, son. Real hot.
I’m not sure if there has been a shake up in the line-up or what the deal was, but Jenn Wertz was not there and on the drum kit was a new guy, not Jim Donovan. Liz Berlin proved more than capable of handling the job of female vocals, weird drum instraments, and looking hot all by herself. Having another female up on stage might have been too much for my ticker.
They played most of the songs off ‘When I Woke,’ which was nice because that’s the album I fell in love with back in high school…and really it’s the only Rusted Root that I know. They peppered the set with a number of new tunes that will be on their upcoming album. I believe they said last night that the new guy comes out in June. The new songs were pretty solid. They sounded a lot like Rusted Root songs, so they’ve got that going for them, which is nice.
They busted out a pretty nigh cover of “Suspicious Minds,” and during “Ecstasy” they teased “All Along the Watchtower” and “Superstition.”
They have seven shows left on this tour, so if they come near your town you should definitely check them out.
