Morning Wood: Vampire Weekend

by C. Brahkowski on April 17, 2008

As I mentioned in yesterday’s Laters, Vampire Weekend is a new band that I’m digging on these days. They kind of have a Paul Simon/warm-spring-day sound going on and I could not be more ready for the cool winds of Winter to take their toys and go home.

Rather than a rant on how much I hate pants or an essay outlining the dangers of riding a bike on the highway with no shoes on, I’ll just throw you few samples of a fun new band. This way, if they hit it big you can say, “brahsome.com hipped me to those guys months ago.” We’ll both look cool as shit.

Here are few songs from their self-titled debut released on XL Recordings.

Oxford Comma

Mansard Roof

A-Punk (Letterman 2/1/08)

I Stand Corrected

Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa

Prolly need to include this one as well, especially with the Paul Simon reference…

Good call. Done.

I’m getting old, because sometimes these cats look like they’re in a high school talent show.

Can’t believe people are backing these guys so hard. Pretty annoying sound…imho

Remember that week when everyone you know started drooling about Wolfmother? That’s what this Vampire Weekend craze feels like…without all the solid rocking

sorry brah, w

I hear you…definitely not for everyone.

I like it because it just seems fresh and creative. . .not the standard “woe is me” indie rock…

Black Sabbath Lite was rockin’ but it wasn’t anything people hadn’t already heard before.
