AggiesLast season Texas A&M’s athletic department switched from Nike to adidas. Not major news. No one really cares which company a school chooses as their apparel provider. It’s not like a favorite NBA player wearing Nike, Reebok or adidas sneakers. If you’re one of those people into wearing your favorite player’s jersey, you’re probably not going to base your purchase on who actually made the thing.

What is news (or at least news to this guy) is when one of your rival schools reveals why the switch was made.

Last night Aggy Athletic Director Bill Byrne held his annual “state of the department” address at Texas A&M. During his speech he answered questions and discussed a wide range of topics, which happened to include a disclosure of why the switch was made. And it’s fantastic.

From the San Antonio Express-News:

He said he met with a Nike representative and requested the same deal as A&M’s chief rival, Texas.

Byrne said he was offended when the rep told him, “You’re not as good as they are and you’re probably never going to be.”

Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful.
