Liquor in Boone: Blackout to Follow

by Stamos on August 20, 2008

Stamos went to college in the sleepy little mountain town of Boone, NC, where the locals are celebrating today. And while there are several things that make getting a higher education in the mountains an attractive scenario, one thing that was less nice was the ban on buying liquor by the drink in town limits. Now granted, there was something fun about piling into some knob’s SUV to catch a ride out to Blowing Rock where you could embark on a deep black with some sorostitute who was going to have a tough time finding a lift back to town and might be easily persuaded to join you and some other fine gents in a pool room at the old Meadowcrook. But, some days you just want a bourbon and coke with lunch, and you don’t want to drive half an hour. Well those days are no longer an issue as the town overwhelmingly passed a bill today affording the luxury of mixing spirits and sodas at local watering holes. “”We are so glad we could be one of the many in the area that have it and we’re just thrilled, thrilled, thrilled this has passed and we can see some development in the downtown area,” said Lee Jacobs, a local enterpreneur. And the development Lee’s talking about likely refers to the development of more significant drinking habits in a population that was once relegated to drinking PBR and poofing weed grass up in the hills. So cheers to you, Boone. Unfortunately the licenses won’t be around for our trip up there this weekend, but all the more reason to find our way later this season to watch Dem Neers whip some 1-AA ass up at the Rock.

So, any good tips for MotM this weekend? What to do pre-/post-show? Been to Boone a couple of times, but no good local knowledge….

Didn’t get miracled, but we’re headed up from Raleigh on Friday night or Saturday morning. Geeked up for Sam, P-Groove, Booty Band, Afromotive, et al. — but, I thought Snake Oil was playing. Did I hallucinate that?

No SOMS, but there will be good music all day, so don’t fret. As far as we know, show starts at Noon and goes till Midnight, so if you go up Saturday, there won’t be a ton of time for pre show anything. Post show, you’ll likely find kids all down King St. Probably live music at Boone Saloon and Murphy’s. Really, you should be able to just follow the scent of weed grass and pachouli and find your way somewhere worthwhile.

It’s pot grass, goddammit, POT GRASS. “Weed grass”? That just lets Tony Stewart know who the fucking narc is.

Honestly, Sam, I just try hard to not copy anything at all that Brinson does…
