Usually, we reserve this space for randting about something in particular (doesn’t that ‘d’ look kind of sexy in the middle of ranting? we’ll leave it, for now) but there’s alot on our mind this morning, so we’re just going to touch on a bunch of stuff.
College football season is underway, with plenty of upsets already. Va Tech and Clemson go down, sealing the ACCs place as the worst conference in football. And happily crawling around the basement of said conference is our own NCSU. Bama looks like they are back sooner than expected, and for those who stayed up last night for the UCLA – Tennessee game… wow. UCLA, for those who don’t pay attention, hired prodigal son Rick Neuheisel (he of MVP of the Rose Bowl Game fame- though more recently of out of college football for betting on college basketball fame). Neuheisel had the good mind to retain DeWayne Walker from the previous staff, and hired Norm Chow (the greatest offensive mind of all time) as his OC. You just know Neuheisel is going to be successful, especially if he can keep that staff together.

Other news from around college football- tOSU is without Heisman hopeful Beanie Wells for who knows how long. They’re got Ohio U next week, but USC is on the docket after that, and they’ll need Wells around if they hope to keep pace with a USC team that throttled UVa over the weekend. The Dawgs are already without a starting OL and DL, and with the schedule they’ve got in conference, that #1 ranking is gonna be tough to hang on to.
Elsewhere in sports, we saw MLBs first 20 game winner emerge yesterday in the form of Cliff Lee. Strangely, that was the 3rd biggest story from the diamond as 2 players hit for the cycle on the same day for the first time in 80 years, and Greg Maddux tied RoHgHer Clemens on the all-time win list. In related news, we’re calling Tim Lincecum for NL Cy Young award- Webb hasn’t been the same since he started 19-4, and Linceceum has 15 wins with 5 blown wins from his bullpen playing for a terrible team. That, plus his ERA is 3/4 of a run less than Webb, and he’s at the top of the league in strikeouts.
Finally, if you haven’t tasted the sweet, sweet nectar that is Firefly Sweet Tea flavored Vodka, where the fuck have you been? There hasn’t been a liquor this hot since prohibition. Seriously- can anyone remember the last time someone they knew was pumped about some new liquor coming out? Like anyone jerked to the idea of Absolut Kurant? Stamos and a buddy did have a great idea for a college marketing class that was called Jack Daniels Hard (modeled after Jack Daniels Hard Cider) except this was bourbon mixed with Viagra to combat the ill-timed effects of Whiskey Dick. Class loved it, but the fine folks at JD didn’t return calls. Anywho, Firefly is seeing limited distribution right now, but if you don’t know it, head down to your local watering hole and tell them you demand to have a John Daly (think Arnold Palmer, but black).
