Ex-Nebraska Cornhusker and career great decision maker Lawrence Phillips was sentenced to 10 years in the pokey on Friday.
He was convicted in 2006 for six counts of assault with a deadly weapon, but the sentencing has been delayed as Phillips attempted to withdraw a guilty plea from a 2005 arrest for assault. His 2005 plea effected the sentencing on this charge due to California’s “three strike” policy. Because this was his second conviction, the state mandated sentence was more strict.
The charges came from 2005, when he lost a pick-up football game in LA and became so pissed off that he drove his car onto the field, striking two boys (ages 14 and 15) and one man (age 19).
It’s too bad he wasn’t more successful in his pro football career, as it’s been proven time and time again that if you’re a celebrity in California you can do pretty much what ever the hell you want. The judge must have seen “NFL Europe” and “CFL” on his resume and knew he was pretty much a joke.
