Mongolians Got Nice On the Pot Grass

by C. Brahkowski on December 4, 2008

2,700 year old stash found in Gobi DesertThe world’s oldest marijuana stash has been discovered during a dig in the Gobi Desert.

While excavating the tomb of a shaman, thought to be around the age of 45 when he died, diggers found approximately two pounds of cannabus located in a leather basket, as well as a small amount in a wooden bowl in the basket.

The substance was originally thought to be coriander, but further analysis proved the plant once had THC.

If you follow the link, I would suggest clicking on the pictures and going through them. It’s pretty interesting stuff. Researchers were able to determine that the marijuana came from a cultivated strain, because of the size of the seeds and the leaves that were present. The fact that someone had gone through and removed all of the male plant parts proves that the cannabus had been grown and used for smoking, not just for the hemp. Which is heady.

The Gobi Desert is located in southern Mongolia. No wonder Genghis Kahn dug those Twinkies.
