This young brah to your right is Garrett Gilbert of Lake Travis HS (Austin, TX), the Gatorade National Player of the Year. Why do we care who the National Player of the Year is, you ask? Because in 2009 he will be joining the University of Texas Longhorns. That’s why.
Lake Travis senior QB Garrett Gilbert was named the top high school player in the nation this week. Gilbert is the first player from the state of Texas to win the award. The Texas commit has completed 849-of-1,304 passes for 11,918 yards and 129 touchdowns in his career.
But Gilbert’s career is not done.
His team is still alive in the playoffs and looking for back-to-back state championships. Gilbert and the Cavs play in the Class 4A Division I semifinals against Friendswood on Saturday. Through 14 games this season, Gilbert has completed 256-of-372 passes for 4,231 yards and 48 touchdowns against just five INTs.
Sounds good to me. Follow the link for a list of previous winners.

hell yeah.. LT & UT- my two alma maters !!
Gilbert doing work..racking up hardware..
**plus LT beat the shit out of 5A Westlake HS this year! take that C Brahkowski! Finally, the tables have turned..
I’m glad Colt’s staying around so GG can redshirt.
Yeah, your win this year is cute and all but Westlake has been to the State playoffs 22 straight years (ridiculous).
A dynasty like that doesn’t fall easy. The days of Drew Brees and C. Brahkowski are over, but it might be a little premature to claim the tables have turned.
Hahaha…so glad we’re talking HS football smack.
Sweet Bowl Cut.
