It’s unfortunate that college football, the best sport in the world, has its champion decided by opinion rather than on field results. Can you imagine if the NFL let sports writers and coaches decide who played in the Super Bowl? I know it sounds crazy…because it is. It’s fucking ridiculous.
I realize that blowU is in the Big XII with my Texas Longhorns. I realize conventional wisdom says to root for your conference. I know this. But let me assure you, nothing good comes from Mobilehoma winning a title. Nothing. They recruit Texas harder than any other school. Well over half their roster is made up of kids who chose the dark side and crossed the Red River.
While a Big XII South team winning the Mythical National Championship would help Texas (especially since we beat that team by double digits on a neutral field…have I mentioned that yet?), it would certainly do more harm than good. Yes I would love to shut the SEC fans up. Yes I would love to see a team we beat go on to beat an SEC team to prove to ESPN that the SEC isn’t the only conference where real football is played. The pundents have been bashing the Big XII’s defense all year, so I’ll admit it would be nice to see a Big XII defense slow down Tebow … but not that nice.
Winning tonight would give blowU hardware. It would give blowU a more recent title than Texas. It would give Stoops and his gaggle of henchmen one more thing to brag about while sitting in the living room of a Texas high school senior as they lie to his parents about what a great place Norman is and that OU is a bastion of academia.
I hate Tim Tebow, I don’t care much for Urban Myer, but for tonight, for one night only: CHOMP, CHOMP.
