This article is from a few days ago, but somehow it slipped by me…so it’s possible it slipped by you, too.
Lafayette French Pastry, in NYC’s Greenwich Village, was offering up “Drunk Negro Face” cookies last week.
The cookie, seen over to your right there, were the creation of Ted Kefalinos, the establishment’s proprietor.
One customer claims Mr. Kefalinos offered these words of wisdom when she visited the bakery:
“Would you like some drunken negro heads to go with your coffee? They’re in honor of our new president. He’s following in the same path of Abraham Lincoln; he will get his.”
So far it sounds like this Kefalinos cat is really on fire. Not only is he incorporating the term “negro” into his products, he’s also letting his customers know that Obama may or may not be heading towards an assassination. I guess any pub is good pub, right?
From the article:
UPDATE: We just spoke with Kefalinos on the phone and he remains utterly oblivious, telling us, “This whole thing was blown out of proportion.” He says he’s sold out of the “Drunken Negro Cakes” and doesn’t plan to make anymore, despite the fact that many customers have been requesting them (he claims). When asked whether he understands that most African-Americans find the word “negro” offensive, Kefalinos explains, “It’s a French word. It comes from the French.”
Atta boy. When in doubt, blame it on the French.

I saw the video while it was still up. You could see the crazy look in the bakers eyes. ” It’s not racism, it’s baking fun”
