Courtney Paris: Another Reason To Cheer Against OU

by C. Brahkowski on March 11, 2009

ept_sports_ncaab_experts-480255636-1236650742It’s no secret around these parts that I loathe OU. I might have mentioned it a few hundred times. Normally my distaste for all things Sooner doesn’t spill over into women’s basketball, because, honestly, who pays attention to women’s basketball other than the friends and families of the players? Exactly.

But today I was given a reason to pay attention, sort of. Of course by “pay attention” I don’t mean watch the games, I just mean that I’ll check the scores on SportsCenter. Here’s why. Oklahoma superstar Courtney Paris has promised to win a national title this season, or she’ll pay back her scholly.

“We’re gonna win a national championship. If we don’t, which is not even an option, just to put something on the line – and it might take me the rest of my life – I will pay back my scholarship because I didn’t do what I said I was going to do.”

While the Sooners are a probable one seed in next week’s dance, there’s that undefeated squad out of Conneticut who might have something to say about Paris’ quest for greatness … and the five rings on Geno Auriemma’s fingers mean he knows how to get his ladies ready. I’m taking all of this from the Rival’s article as I had no idea UConn was undeafeated, nor that Geno had five rings.

The important part here is that she said she would pay it back, not her parents. Her father is a former NFL offensive lineman, so Dahddy might have the ducats to back this claim up … but I doubt he’s thrilled with the idea of forking over the coin to pay for a free education … especially from that glorified community college in Norman.

So as you’re sitting there flipping through the channels next week and you come across a battle royale of fundamentally crisp, low scoring basketball take a moment to check to see if the ladies are wearing crimson and cream. If so, you might be watching a game with $64,000 on the line.
