We'll Say It's Official: Calipari to Kentucky (Update)

CalipariUpdate: Our numbers were a little off, but we got the school/coach right! The contract is reportedly worth $31.65M over 8 years, plus incentives.

The infanets have been buzzing this afternoon with the not-so-quiet rumors that John Calipari has been hired as the new basketball coach at Kentucky, replacing ol’ Billy Clyde, who was given his waking papers after two lack luster seasons in Lexington.

Has it been announced officially? Not really.

Press conference? Not yet.

Already Dead buy

Do we say it’s official? Hellz yeah.

Hey, we brought you the Cutcliffe to Duke

Bumble Boogie rip

story that set the world (read: parts of Durham) ablaze back in 2007, so we’ll do it again, son!

Our sources close to the program, and by close I mean the approximately 500 miles from Brahsome HQ to Lexington, inform us that the deal is worth $40M over 6 years. Which, in your author’s humble opinion, is just fucking ridiculous, outlandish, preposterous, and kooky.

How could Calipari pass this up? Granted, at Memphis he was the only fish in a small pond. He was guaranteed 25+ wins a year for his “career wins” resume and he got to spend Jan/Feb in relax mode whipping up on lesser opponents while the other schools limped into the Big Dance after vicious battles in tougher conferences … but, shit, man, this is 40 million freakin’ ducats. Who says no to that? Let’s just hope, for Kentucky’s sake, that World Wide Wes was included in that price tag.

Update: Our numbers were a little off, but we got the school/coach right! The contract is reportedly worth $31.65M over 8 years, plus incentives.

Interesting that a largely Pro-Pack site would believe this as quickly as State fans believed they had him locked up three years ago… But in regards to “tougher competition” the SEC was only barely – if even – better than C-USA last year. So does anyone really doubt that he could rack up 25 wins a year agains the likes of Ole’ Miss, Georgia, Arkansas, Auburn, South Carolina and Vanderbilt?
