We kind of have a rule around here about covering women’s sports on the blahg: Thou shalt not cover women’s sports unless it involves nudity or, at a minimum, hot chicks. I might now attend my first women’s basketball game at my alma mater. NC State introduced its new women’s basketball coach, Kellie Harper, today. No word yet on the potential nudity. Harper was a three time national champion, starting at point guard for the legendary Pat Summit at Tennessee, before getting into coaching. Most recently, Harper was the head coach at Western Carolina University, where she compiled a 97-65 record, leading the Catamounts to a conference title and NCAA tournament birth this past season.
Harper replaces NC State legend Kay Yow on the sidelines. Yow died earlier this year after a 20 year bout with breast cancer. The Wolfpack’s spring football game has been named in Yow’s honor. The Kay Yow Spring Game will be held this Saturday at Carter-Finley Stadium at 1:00 p.m. Admission is $1 for adults, with all proceeds going to the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund, part of the V Foundation for Cancer Research. Weather is supposed to be perfect on Saturday and I will be getting my tailgate on. The Brahsome RV is in the shop, so it won’t be as easy to spot us as it is during the fall.
