Coach K Losing It?

by The Piler on November 17, 2009

If you follow college basketball at all, you probably heard the nation’s number one prospect, Harrison Barnes, picked UNC over a host of big name programs this past Friday, including the Duke Blue Devils.  No surprise, except when you consider Coach K has been in all in on this kid for two years and Roy Williams basically ignored him until last month. Barnes set up a presser for Friday and a skype line to let the “winning” coach know his final choice.  K, apparently, thought Barnes was in the bag and set up a team gathering to receive the news.  It was not a pretty sight according to some close to the team.  We received the following recap on K’s reaction, which you can read after the jump.

***Update- We’ve received a few emails denying the accuracy of this report.  We are working to confirm at the moment, but is it really that hard to picture K losing his billies after Roy snaked him?  I didn’t think so.

My wife works at dook and there was a story circulating last evening about the Rat losing his mind when Barnes announced for UNC.  Barnes contacted the 5 coaches who were recruiting him on Thursday night and thanked them for recruiting him, etc – and told them that he was setting up a skype call to the coach/school he picked. All of the coaches were, of course, near a computer when the presser was going on – waiting to see if Barnes contacted them. The Rat was so convinced that dook had him that he had the entire team in the bball lounge WITH several of the dook cheerleaders to add to the celebration. When Barnes was having technical difficulties, he started yelling at someone in the office to fix the computer, was getting all pissed off.

After Barnes said “Hello Coach Roy Williams” he apparently went nuts — stormed out of the lounge, slammed the door (knocking a picture off the wall) and went in the coaches office and knocked over a table of DVD’s and threw a book across the room. She said Chrissy Collins followed him down the hall and was yelling “How could he turn on us like this” with a few other
choice words. This was all witnessed (and told) by a Sports Therapist who works part time with the womens bball team and was hanging around like everyone else — her twin sister works in the department with my wife and she was telling everyone how crazy it was.

You guys have trouble believing this? This sounds exactly like something Ratface would do.

My sister’s bff’s pen pal’s uncle (who knows Kevin Bacon!) told me that K was brainwashing orphans the other day because he was so mad about losing out on a recruit.

Seriously? That hard up for hits on the blahg these days?

Is it that hard to believe that Roy has more pull at UNC than just about anyone out there?

“No surprise, except when you consider Coach K has been in all in on this kid for two years and Roy Williams basically ignored him until last month.”

More like Roy ignored HB until the last 6 months. I know you hate Duke and Coach K but this is pretty weak.

For the record, everyone at Brahsome hates Roy and UNC far more than K and Duke (I believe)

If I didn’t know better, I’d think you were one of those fake ncsu fans that wishes you couldve gone to unc. You have successfully eliminated another reader who happens to back Duke. Well done, sir!
