Besides proving that you just can’t hold him down (no, he can’t be stopped) Pacman Jones is showing that he gets deep on the idea of artistic and humorous irony, announcing Wednesday afternoon that he will team up with hip hop producer Spoaty on a single entitled “Let It Shine” that they will perform under the moniker “Posterboyz”. Seriously, the glorious name of the single (letting it shine being the opposite of making it rain isn’t just obvious to us, right?) and the artists’ names (because he’s so well behaved) are almost too much to handle.
Our obvious infatuation with Pacman aside, we’d also like to give two very hefty thumbs up for a “z” replacing an “s” in any word. Jones tried to get all deep in the wrestling scene with TNA, but the Titans took care of shutting that down pretty quick. Not one to stand on his laurels, Pacman will voyage into a much more artistic and much less dangerous arena, that of the hip-hop game. Fortunately his six arrests and full season suspension should do nothing to promote the already stellar stereotype that whitebread America takes towards gangster rap.
Neither does the motto of National Street League Records, the label which Jones will also preside as CEO of, which reads ” “IF U AIN’T HEARD BOUT US…U AINT IN DEZ STREETS”, according to their Myspace page. You better believe we’re all over that friend request. Although we do question whether “DEZ” is the accurate slang (or whatever you would call it) for “these”. Isn’t it missing an “E”?
More wonderful stuff from the Associated Press:
The record label said it plans a tour of high schools and universities in Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama and Mississippi this fall.
Jones said he finds tranquility in writing lyrics.
“Looking from the outside in, I have been the example for many to see the poster child if you will; and from that sentiment the ‘Posterboyz’ group name was born,” he said in a statement.
See! We told you the irony was totally self aware. Although we think he kind of misses the inherent meaning of “poster child” there. But hey, if writing lyrics calms you down, Pac, well, um, maybe you should have thought about cranking out some poetry in Vegas.
