Tonight is the night, brahs. The NFL season is upon us. As beautiful as Saturday was, this weekend will actually be even better. Not only will be able to have a full 12 hour pile session on Saturday, but our efforts will be rewarded with a full day of NFL games on Sunday. Only in America. You can’t do this shit in China.
This being Brahsome.com’s first football season, we had our first (annual?) Brahsome Fantasy League draft the other night and it went about as well as can be expected. The Brahsome.com contributors are joined by fellow blahgers from Ghosts of Wayne Fonte and More Credible, forming a Battle of the Blahgers.
You can find each team’s roster and Stamos’ draft breakdown after the jump.

Stamos’ break down of the draft:
My personal strategy was to simply not have the worst team around. I knew at #7 I wasn’t going to get the RBs I wanted, but as long as I darfted 2 starters with upside and a solid backup, I should be OK. Alexander sliding to 7 was a surprise, and if Walter Jones can stay healthy, I think Alexander could post #s much closer to 05 than 06. McGahee in the 2nd round wasn’t my favorite pick, but as a #2 RB, I could have done much worse (see Portis, Clinton on More Credible or Williams, Cadillac on Your Worst Nighthorse). I also picked up Ronnie Brown as my backup in the 5th round, which I think was a coup. TO is a fine #1, and Lee Evans is the best #2 WR in this league, save for maybe Andre Johnson, who Ghosts backdoored from me in the 4th (something that would become quite common as the draft went on). Other players I had targeted that got snuck on included Don McNabb 3 picks before me in the 5th, Blexico Purress the pick before me in the 6th, and Vernon Davis 2 picks before me in the 8th.
Overall, I’d say my team could finish anywhere from 1st to 10th. If everyone stays healthy (a yuuuuuuge if) I have as much talent as anyone. But, I’ve got risks all over the place, so we’ll see. Here’s some thoughts on the other teams:
YWN: Pretty good team from top to bottom, but lacks RBs. LDT is the best, but I don’t trust Caddy or Marshawyn Lynch, and RBs win titles. Bottom 3rd of the league.
BStones: Great RB core with SJax and MJD, and with Brandon Jackson and Chester Taylor to back up, should be fine. Not as solid on the WR, as only Wayne is high level, and Calvin Johson, though hugely talented, is a rookie, and WR usually take 2 or 3 years to reach their potential in the NFL. Made up for it getting Gates, though, who’s basically another WR. Middle 3rd of the league.
More Credible: If they can package either Palmer or Brees and Portis for a real #2 RB (I loathe Portis) and a #1 WR to play alongside Darrell Jackson, this could be a good team. However, in a 10 team league, they may find it difficult to get appropriate value, and at the end of the day, I think they’ll have a big hole at one of those two positions. Bottom 3rd.
Esquire: If Cedric Benson can become a good RB this year, Esquire could be a very good team. Gore is solid (assuming he stays healthy) and Starvin Marvin and Colston are a great 1-2 punch at WR. I think McNabb is #1 QB this year. If things go well, this is definitely a playoff team. Top 3rd.
Kigh: I love Kigh’s #1s, but don’t like his #2s. Addai and Steve Smith are great. Edge and Javon Walker, not so much. I think this is a team that will be streaky- blowout someone out then receive said blowout. Tough to win if you’re like that, as fantasy is all about consistancy. Middle 3rd.
Nick Saban Blows: Ouch. Thinking they’d gotten a steal, NSB took Steve Smith in the 3rd round. Unforunately, it was Steve Smith of NY Football Giants fame. That really set them back. Fast Willie is a good #1RB, but TJ Housh as #1 WR and rookie Adrian Peterson in Minny as #1 RB don’t bode well. Welcome to the doormat.
Stamos: See above. Middle 3rd.
GOWF: Had they taken a #2 RB earlier, this would be the team to beat. Bush, Peyton, Larry Fitz, Andre Johnson, Tony Gonzalez… But Brandon Jacobs, Jerious Norwood, Fred Taylor, Kevin Jones- they’re all a little scary. Jacobs has great potential, but he’s got to prove it. I actually think he’ll be fine to get 20 carries a week, and if he does, this team is going to be huge. Top 3rd.
Tank: Wow. Starting line-up of Hasselback (or Eli Manning), Westbrook and Henry (or Tom Jones), Holt, Roy Williams, and Hines Ward (or Jerricho Cotchery), and Vernon Davis is just stout as hell. I like Tank as the early title favorite. Definitely top-3rd.
Hee-Haw Rejects: This team was on auto-select, and kind of got shafted. Ending up with Rudi Johnson, Laurence Maroney, Deuce McAllister, Marion Barber, and Ahman Green wouldn’t sound that bad, until you realize the only other player they got in the 1st 6 rounds was Anquan Boldin. This team will need to make some trades to fill out the roster. Until then, they’re bottom 3rd.

If only I could have a team in this league.
Sincerely,
Fantasy Guru
Sorry I missed it…looking forward to keeping tabs on the league.
My computer crashed for the Bennett, Jones, and Toomer picks, but now I am all superstitous that one of them is going to be a big steal. Something tells me it’s not going to be Toomer.
Not really sure how you put a team with LDT in the bottom third of the league. If Caddy stumbles, Lynch will be a serviceable #2. Bulger is a solid Qb. The receivers aren’t bad either. Ocho cinco will get his, Brown is McNabb’s #1 guy, and Santonio is verybody’s favorite breakout candidate. Hackett on the bench may step up with decent numbers as the number 1 in Seattle. Way off base there.
I’m not ready to annoint Tank the champ quite yet. Hassleback was awful last year and his receivers are unproven (see above). I’m not in love with his RB combo either. Westbrook should be fine, but Henry could be bust or boom. Not to mention, the backups are nothing to write home about.
I think it’s pretty clear I’m winning this thing. I will also trade Calvin Johnson for anything.
Who is Nick Saban Blows!!! and please tell me he really picked Steve Smith of the Giants in the 3rd round.
