When I opened our humble blahg this morning I noticed it had been hours since we last posted a video from youtube, so I thought I would throw one more up here.
Last night the #8 Texas Longhorns knocked off #1 (ESPN)/#2 (AP) UCLA in Pauley Pavilion, ending UCLA’s 25 game win streak at home and improving Texas’ record to 7-0.
UCLA enlisted the star power of hoops fan Denzel Washington, but even his tough guy mojo wasn’t enough to stop the Horns. The #2 Bruins are the highest ranked opponent Texas has upset on a non-nuetral court in school history.
The Horns came out firing and UCLA struggled against the zone defense, as the Horns lead by as many as 16 points in the first half. The Bruins settled in and found their game after the break, opening the second half with a 16-3 run.
Trading punches down the stretch, the game came down to the final seconds. As you can see from the not-too-professional video, Texas forward Damion James grabbed a miss by DJ Augustin out of the air and slammed it home with 8 seconds remaining, giving Texas a 63-61 lead. UCLA’s Mbah a Moute missed a three pointer at the buzzer.
This is the second top 10 team the Horns have upset this season. On November 24, the Horns took down the then ranked #7 Tennessee Volunteers in the championship game of the StubHub Legends Classic.
So that’s what it looks like when your players actually show up for a big game. If only we could get Rick Barnes to coach in the fucking Holiday Bowl.
