MW: Even the Losers Get Lucky Sometimes
Jan 28th, 2008 by Brinson
My two favorite things are gambling and football. And steez. But gambling and football are definitely are more easily accessible and I’m lazy as shit. (Although I suppose, “theoretically”, with a phone, laptop and a television you could also have a hooker show up to your parents’ house. You know…I mean, if you wanted…) And I could prattle on about the glory of winning money on a string of big Sunday afternoon games, but a) those days are hard to really feel anymore after being kicked in the nuts repeatedly for so many Sundays and b) if you’re still reading you already know what I’m talking about.
Anywho, one of my more favoritest things to do when the Super Bowl rolls around, besides obviously wagering on heads and the over, is to take all kinds of silly prop bets. Like a lot of them. Such an unhealthy amount that I always end up looking for that extra fresh hit right about halftime. So what do I do? I spend most of the first half-time during the now crappy commercials coming up with odds and making bets on what will get played at halftime. Since I now have a blog, I thought I’d bring you the early halftime show setlist lines.
Runnin’ Down a Dream (1:5) This is the Tiger Woods of Petty songs. It might not be everyone’s favorite song but you can go ahead and pencil it into the SB setlist. It’s the theme song for the SB halftime show and what sums up a search for a trophy better than the act of running down a dream? Sure we at Brahsome prefer chasing the dragon, but that usually ends up in stumbling down dreams anyway.
American Girl (1:2) This just stinks of the opener doesn’t it? I think it does. And if you don’t like it…you can ggggget out.
Mary Jane’s Last Dance (1:1) Is it a lock? You would think so, because the younger generation knows it so well and that’s why “Vegas” has set the line so low, but there are a few problems with the song. First, it’s long. Second, it’s about a woman dying if MTV has taught us anything. And finally, Tom Petty ripped it off the Chili Peppers.
I Won’t Back Down (2.5:1) Typically, this would seem like something that’s a stone cold lockjob. It’s only 2:56 long, the title and theme is perfect…but do enough people know it? That’s the issue here.
Free Fallin’ (5:1) In no way does it relate to winning the Super Bowl biggest game of the year (as all the strip clubs we frequent are calling it) but everyone knows it, so it seems reasonable.
Refugee (10:1) Probably the best play on the board. It rocks, its meaning can be contorted enough for the purpose, people know it and it’s the only logical song without shitty odds.
You Wreck Me (15:1) Surely he wouldn’t. Right? Right???
Even the Losers (22:1) This line was off the board until Norv and the Chargers were eliminated. Theme based music is fun!

Good post, American girl should be a lock as you predicted. I really feel the rest is up in the air. Running Down a Dream seems like a perfectly logical choice as well, except for the fact the NBA used it for their last playoff season and I don’t know if they’d travel down that road. As I mentioned earlier in a comment I left, I don’t believe they’ll use MJ’s Last Dance just to avoid controversy, which is a shame. My last thought is that he’s going to include at least one of his newer tunes (obviously, a smart career move).
