Morning Wood: Things and Stuff

Brooklyn Decker - SI Swimsuit ModelGood morning hookers and hustlers. Welcome to another Thursday in the universe. Oh, and it’s Valentines Day.

Ms. Decker featured to the left has nothing to do with today’s Morning Wood, but with the release of this year’s Swimsuit Issue, and it being 30 degrees outside, I thought she might help ease us into the day.

Things seem to be dragging a little bit this week, at least for this guy. Plus, it’s so cold outside I had to get into my Durango via the passenger side this morning. It snowed last night, which then melted, then re-froze…leaving a nice layer of ice on my car. Awesome. Once I was finally able to break in and get on the road, I remembered that my local NPR affiliate is still doing a pledge drive, which is about as fun to listen to on the way to work in the morning as Fran Drescher discussing Bush’s foreign policy.

But I’m here. That’s what counts. I made it in, so now I can give my 8 hours to the man. And by give my 8 hours to the man, I mean chill out for about 45 mins, then blahg for a few hours, then take a long lunch, and then probably knock out a few things before sliding out early.

For any of you in the Raleigh area looking for that last minute VDay idea, Taj Mahal is bringing his cajun-blues-reggae mojo to Meymandi Concert Hall this evening. I’ll be in the house…so that automatically makes it the place to be, son.

Speaking of music, I just scored tickets to a Radiohead show in May…which instantly becomes the highlight of my week.

I’ve been a fringe Radiohead fan for a while. I go through phases. Sometimes Thom York seems a little pretentious…which isn’t uncommon in rock stars. Sometimes he seems like one of the best song writers out there. I’ve listened to OK Computer a lot. It’s a great album, but I’m not sure I agree with Radiohead..heads?..that have hailed it a landmark album of the 90’s. It might be. Who am I to disagree? I remember when I first heard of the band, I was pretty stoked that they had named themselves after a Talking Heads song. They scored points there. It’s hard to deny their talent or impact on the music scene…so seeing them live for the first time will be exciting. And my lady is a huge fan. So that’s nice.

Karma Police is a pretty bad ass song.

The release of Creep in ‘92 put them on the map.

Since I really don’t have much else to say this morning…here’s a taste of Taj Mahal.

Mailbox Blues

And since I’m going to see Black Mountain on Sunday night…here’s a taste of them, too.

And we’ll go ahead and close out the day with another picture of the lovely Ms. Decker.
