Hi folks. Good to be back, good to get back to school, work and be away from a tropical Caribbean island. Seriously. Just fantastic to be here. And everything from last week worked out just fine, thank you. I got my luggage, we got our diving in and hopefully I’ll have some pictures some time later this week. Have to get them developed the old fashioned way, since apparently you can’t take a digital camera into a $20 whorehouse. Who knew, right?
Anyway, I hate when people stain ear about their weekends and vacation (oh…) so instead I want to talk about the ridiculous screwjob that got handed to my boy Herb Sendek and Arizona State last night. Look, here’s the thing: every year, there are like eight teams that complain that they got screwed out of a spot in the NCAA tournament. Every year, most of them have a case. Because, every year, the Selection Committee makes some stupid choices. But for the most part, it’s just old hat. No matter how much you expand the tournament, someone is going to get screwed. You make it so 128 teams are getting in, and there will be teams 129-132 complaining that they got hosed. It’s how it works.
Still, though, I see Seth Greenberg’s beef — there are enough bowls available to NCAA football teams that even ECU can occasionally compete in a postseason berth, and shouldn’t the NCAA basketball players get the same opportunity to compete instead of seeing their careers end? Of course. Seth, brah, it’s called the NIT. Look, we all agree VaTech probably got hosed at the expense of Villanova, but thems the breaks, dood. Go out and win the NIT, which is the same thing as a shitload of bowls.
However, Herb has an even bigger beef, I think. He swept Arizona. Arizona is in, ASU is out. Honestly, what more do you have to do in order to deserve a spot in the tourney, assuming, of course, that Arizona makes it in? Don’t give me that strength of schedule and RPI bull-ka-ka either; if Arizona loses to Arizona State twice in one season, and both are considered bubble teams for at large bids, the Wildcats can’t be in unless the Sun Devils make it too. It just has to work that way. Get rid of ‘Nova, get rid of Miami. Or stop slinging around mid-major berths. Oh wait, you quit doing that too. RIP, Illinois State.

Greenburg needs to quit whinning. He has 1 win over a top 50 RPI school. Play somebody if you want some respect.
