Tuesday, March 25 the heady brahs from Vermont will be releasing 7/6/98 as the next installment of ‘Live Phish.’
I can go ahead and give you my review: 5/5
July 6, 1998 is the second of a two-night stand at Lucerna Theater in Prague, Czech Republic.
I was at this two night throwdown with four of my boys (two of whom were seeing their first Phish shows) and it has always been on my Top 5 Phish Experiences list.*. Since it was so long ago, the memories of the two nights have kind of become one, joint “Phish in Europe” kind of thing…but I can remember leaving each night with part of my face melted off my dome, if that counts for anything.
Obviously the fact that we were five 18-year-old hippies seeing our favorite band behind the iron curtain made the shows instant classics before the boys even took the stage, but the funknastiness that came through the speakers certainly helped cement them as “favorite show” candidates.
The 1998 summer shows have always been regarded by Phish fans as a solid group (Island Tour was filthy), but the Europe Tour was something special. Playing in venues that were a fraction of the size they were booking in the States, the band seemed loose (even by Phish standards) and the shows were small, intimate and rockin’.
CDs will be available for purchase (in uber heady recycled packaging) at http://drygoods.phish.com/ and available for download in MP3 or FLAC format at http://www.livephish.com/
