Bill Self has announced that even T. Boone Pickens’ money isn’t reason enough to live in Jokelahoma. The coach of the 2008 National Champion Jayhawks spoke with Okie Lite officials on Wednesday regarding their vacant coaching position, then met with KU officials and decided no amount of money is worth moving to Mobilehoma. . .and it’s hard to find anyone to disagree with him.
Self is from Okieland, played for Okie Lite and was an assistant coach there early in his career, so when Sean Sutton was fired many believe he was the top candidate.
In fact, rumors were circulating last week that Okie Lite was offering as high as $6 million per year and Pickens (OSU alumnus and billionaire) was willing to add a $10 million bonus if the coach stayed for 10 years. Coach Self said no dollar amount was discussed in Wednesday’s meetings.
In five years at KU, Self has 142 wins, four Big XII championships and one National Championship. . .which is pretty decent I suppose.
