As a bandwagon fan of the Tennessee Titans I have to say I’m disappointed to see Pacman Jones traded. Granted, the Cowboys are my NFC squad, so if he has to leave Nashville, I’m glad Jerrah Jones was the one to pick him up. . .but I hate to see him go.
Say what you will about his off-field antics, but I’m not necessarily looking for a team of choir boys. I don’t want to be emotionally (or on occasion financially) invested in a team that puts more stock in “character” than skill. It might sound bad, but it’s true. This is the National Football League. These cats have been bigger, stronger, and faster than their peers since grade school. They’ve had parents, teachers, and coaches bending the rules for them their whole lives, because they could play ball. And then people are shocked when they behave like the rules don’t apply to them.
Yes, he’s had a few run-ins with Johnny Law. And by “a few run-ins” I mean 6 arrests and 12 instances where Johnny Law was called. I don’t want him baby-sitting my kids. I don’t even want him living in my neighborhood, really. But that’s cool because I think we’re in different tax brackets anyway, so it shouldn’t be a problem. I do, however, want him roaming the field, giving Peyton Manning one more thing to think about.
Pacman is a baller. Period. Is he an idiot? Probably. Does he have a penchant for taters and pole dancers? Who doesn’t? Yes. But I don’t care. What I do care about is the Titans maintaining a strong defense to give Black Jebus as much help as possible. Pacman had 4 chicos (INTs) in 2006 and led the NFL in punt return average with 12.9 yards and added three touchdowns. That’s solid as shit.
With Albert Haynesworth stopping the run and Pacman covering deep, the Titans defense was going to look like my stock portfolio. Strong to very strong.
I realize after all that has happened, from a PR standpoint, the Titans probably had to make this
move. I guess. But I really think they (we?) could have played the “second chance” card that Dallas has been known to play so well. See Terrell Owens. See Tank Johnson. They take the trouble makers, because Jerrah desperately wants a return to the glory days of the 1990’s. You think the Dallas front office gives a shit about “character?” Do you remember the days of Michael Irvin and the White House?
This is a zero risk trade for Dallas. They gave up a 4th round pick in this weekend’s draft and then a 2009 pick that depends on Jones’ production this year. If he doesn’t get reinstated by Iron Fist Goodell or he happens to get arrested again and doesn’t make it to the field, the Cowboys get their picks back. No brainer, brahs.
All that’s left now is to tune in on Saturday to see who the Titans are going to bring in. The Chosen One needs help. Bad. Fatdale White showed signs of improvement late in the season, so how about we bring in a WR? Like, oh say, Limas Sweed?

Generally, I agree with this sentiment; however, sometimes guys reach a certain point where you can almost count on their dumbassitude costing them significant playing time. Ron Artest was like this for awhile. Lock down defender, excellent slasher who could always get to the rack; great on-court determination, but it was inevitable that he would screw multiple times a season and have to sit out a bunch of games. I look at players like the Pacman in a similar manner as an injury-prone guy. He is an excellent corner and return guy, but is also extremely likely to something really stupid and cost the team he plays for significant PT.
