I saw a few innerweb rumors yesterday that Dr. Hoffman has passed, but never saw it from a “legit” news source…although these days, who counts as “legit?”
Dr. Hoffman’s Wikipedia page has been updated to show yesterday as his date of death, and like Michael Scott says, Wikipedia is the best sourse of information because all of the experts can weigh in.

Could Dr. Hoffman perhaps be responsible for the evolution of the brah? Is smoke alone enough to bring one to a level brahness that is seen with L? Whoa, ponder on that one dude.
