NC Central Gives Duke Lacrosse ‘Lady’ a Degree; Dookies Not ‘Happy’

by BoxyBrown on May 21, 2008

When I started reading Kristin Butler’s most recent article Duke’s daily paper, The Chronicle, I was initially annoyed, since she starts out the article by saying, “It seems anyone can get a college degree these days-especially if they go to North Carolina Central University.” Hmmm, my brain said. That seems relatively typical. But that’s why you read the whole article, no?

See, Ms. Butler is teed off because NCCU just awarded a degree in “police psychology” to Crystal Mangum, who you most likely know as the “Duke Lacrosse Case Stripper”. The events of this case are far from necessarily rehashable; if you were breathing within the 50 states during the summer of 2006 you know all about them. But as Butler points out, Mangum’s actions constitute a pretty gross slew of violations to NCCU’s honor code and policy of maintaining a “drug free academic community”.

And while maybe it’s worthwhile to point out that Mangum, despite her lies, suffered miserably throughout the trial as her sexual exploits and drug abuse were chronicled within the very public context of post-crime investigation and pretrial discovery, it should absolutely be pointed out that two of the Duke Lax players did not graduate this semester as a result of the trial.

And while I’m not as quick to condemn NCCU as Butler is — plenty of universities in the State of North Carolina have graduated people with worse crimes under their belt — it is still pretty reprehensible that they so casually allowed such a publicly flagrant violator of the rules to pick up a cap and gown.

And in “Police Psychology”? I’m not exactly sure what that is, but it sounds a lot like a slap in the face.

She didn’t suffer enough. It’s a travesty that she wasn’t prosecuted for her actions.

This makes me want to kill myself.

Unbelievable, I’m with the Piler on this one, she should suffer, yet the complete opposite happens…she gets the ultimate reward, a college degree she will never use.

Great, so when she has one of these… http://www.faqs.org/nutrition/images/nwaz_02_img0147.jpg
She’ll now be intelligent enough to know that crack isn’t good.

What can you offer up to counter the thoughts of this reporter, this editorial board, this university who looks at NCCU as a university whose moral fiber isn’t thicker than the paper its diplomas are printed on?

Her and Nifong both should be thrown in prison at least Nifong was disbarred and recently filed for bankruptcy. She is a horrible human being and doesn’t deserve to be in society much less given a college degree.

They didn’t “give” her a damn thing, she earned her degree.

Mike C. May 27, 2008 at 9:30 am

Can you produce for me how she earned this degree?

Gail May 28, 2008 at 8:43 pm

In response to Mike (#9,) she “earned” that degree because most anyone with a pulse can earn a degree at NC Ghetto U. Their entrance standards are shamefully low: SAT of 780, anyone? Unfortunately, Durham public schools have entirely too many of these “graduates” in the classroom. They are some of the most uneducated, ignorant, and inarticulate teachers I’ve ever encountered. Their education school is a state joke. Should my child ever be assigned a teacher with a Central degree, I’ll be asking a lot of questions before having her in that classroom.

Ahh… and it seems to go unsaid that Ms. Mangum was also involved in grand theft auto, as she stole the keys from a cab driver she was stripping for, ran from the cops, and ultimately smashed a cop car. She blew a .19 and then passed out. She also formulated two other false rape charges before the Duke incident.

No, she didn’t suffer. She enjoyed every drop of attention and notoriety that she got out of this. You can’t punish and deter criminals by blogging about them, and that’s what this piece of crap is: A CRIMINAL!

Well, im an alumni from nccu…and these comments are deplorable. So, anyone can get into this school…pails in comparison to students attending duke who, in the words of a duke senior, “can drink everyday and still get a b average because my professors are friends with my father”. You see, everyone knows that duke students are spoiled…so it seems to me that anyonw without a brain can graduate from duke, literally. Great school, considering that the lacrosse players specifically wanted an african american dancer, knew her by name, and had been drinking all day. There are the police reports if you want them that conclude this. Neighbors continually called police for these rowdy people. Im glad this lacrosse case happened. It shed light on the crooked mishappenings that occur at “prestigious” (ha) universities. Laughable, but the smart ones do turn to be doctors…then they go and kill a little girl, not realizing that a person’s blood type has to match with the blood type of the heart…Yeah, nc ghetto u is WAY worse. There are more rape cases, more binge drinking, more alcohol poisoning, more std’s, more pay offs at duke than there ever will be at NCCU. Respond to me, and ill give you proof…and believe me firsthand…i know how crooked and shameful the “elite” dukies are…
