Morning Wood: Sad Day For Met Fans

by Stamos on June 17, 2008

Listen, it was time for the Willie Randolph experiment to come to a conclusion- on this we can all agree.  Afer finishing 4 games above .500 in his first season, and 32 games over in his second, things had fallen apart.  An under .500 ball club since the all-star break last year, and sitting second to last in the NL East despite a $138 million payroll and pre-season pennant talk, the Mets brass needed to make a move.  What they didn’t need to do was fire a coach coming of back to back wins 3000 miles away at 3:15 a.m. in a press release.

Just disgusting.  Anyone who’s read this blahg before knows Stamos is a Mets fan.  And Stamos is friggin disgusted.  Willie is a good guy- beloved by half of New Yorkers for his career in pinstripes, and the other half for his decade of service as 3rd base coach for the Metropolitans.  And when he was hired by the Mets, it was as a result of their front office being guided by one of many old baseball management principles- when you fire one manager, you hire a guy just the opposite.  Well Bobby Valentine was a fireball hotcase.  Willie, on the other hand, was calm, cool, and collected.  And why’s he getting fired now, you ask?  Because apparently he’s too calm and doesn’t relate to his players.  So who’re they replacing him with?  Jerry Fucking Manuel!!!  Is Jerry Manuel even awake?  We’re pretty sure he’s been in a coma since coaching the ChiSox to 95 wins back in Y2K.

But, we digress.  We have already called for Willie to get fired, so this isn’t out of nowhere.  what is out of nowhere is the Mets acknowledging they have absolutely no class.  Who the hell gets fired at 3:15 am, with the possible exception of Zeke if his boss saw our article on him?  There is a relatively short list of things that are acceptable to do at 3:15am, and it is as follows: black; plow; eat.  That’s it.  And unless Omar Minaya and Fred Wilpon were neck deep in bourbon, vagina, and pizza, this was not OK.

Hopefully the Mets’ front office will have something to say for themselves if they ever make themselves available for comment.  And hopefully, the team will respond by turning this season around so we can look good during the move to Citifield in the offseason.
