Joey Chestnut:Brahmerican Hero

by The Piler on July 6, 2008

Joey Chestnut defended his Nathan’s Famous Hot Dot Eating Contest Title on July 4th defeating Japan’s Takeru Kobayashi, a former 6 time champion, in an eat-off.  The eaters were tied with 59 dogs after 10 minutes of crushing weiners and went into a 5 dog overtime.  Emerging victorious for the second year in a row, Chestnut picked up $20,000 for his troubles.  Considered the World’s most famous hot dot eating contest, the Nathan’s Contest is always held on July 4th in Coney Island, New York.  From 2001 through 2006, Kobayashi reigned supreme on America’s birthday before Chestnut burst on the scene to restore all that’s good about this gluttonous glorious country.  If watching Jaws, as Chestnut is known, stuff his face for the red, white and blue doesn’t give you chills then you aren’t American.

This was the first HDEC I’ve ever watched live…pretty disgusting 10 minutes, really….but that Dog-Off at the end was epic.

Kobayashi is washed up.
