Ever Wondered About Players’ At-Bat Music

by Brinson on September 25, 2008

One of my favorite things when I’m watching baseball — outside of the sport itself — is to listen to at bat music for various players. I freaking love finding out what certain guys come to bat to, and firmly believe that players who listen to shoddy music when they step to the plate (note that “shoddy” is totally different in this situation than normal) cannot succeed. And maybe I’m wrong about that, but I still won’t respect them. However, I’ve always wanted a full list of every MLB’s guy music. And now, thanks to ESPN, I have it.

One of the few windows into a Major Leaguer’s soul comes when he saunters up to the plate and his specially-selected at-bat song blasts from the PA. For fans, it’s a way to bond (”Hey, I like Lil Wayne, too!”) and a small glimpse at what favorite players are like off the field.

Truer words were never spoken. And I highly suggest you check it out and mess around with the various players AB Tunes. The downside of it is that it has to play through Itunes. Which means that you don’t get to hear John Smoltz associated with “Thunderstruck”. Although you do get Tom Glavine and Collective Soul’s “Heavy” (which is actually kind of bad-ass in an old man way).
