True Blood Season Finale

True Blood: Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, Alan Ball
The first season of HBO’s latest series, True Blood, came to an end last night and, as expected, left more questions than answers.

Spoilers after the jump.

Bill risked death by daylight to try to help Sookie fight against Rene, who turned out to be the killer. Too bad about Rene because I liked his Cajun style. It was obvious something wasn’t right with him, though, as he was marrying that god-awful Arlene. She’s terrible. Why can’t a vampire attack that bitch? Or maybe they already have … was she in the back seat of Andy’s car?

Speaking of Arlene, it was kind of funny to see her two kids sitting there watching vampire pr0n. Talk about an interesting introduction to the birds and the bees. “When two people love each other, the man ties the woman’s arms together and suspends the rope from the ceiling. He then bangs her from behind while growling and screeching like a demon. And that’s where babies come from!”

Now that Rene has been linked to the killings, Jason got out of jail, much to the chagrin of Andy Belfour, which kind of sucks. Jason’s not a bad character, but having him locked up meant less scenes of him naked or in his undies. On the other hand, no one was complaining about the gratuitous titties while he was banging the waitresses and patrons of Sam’s restaurant.

And while we’re on the topic of Merlot’s, is my boy Lafayette dead? Surely not. We saw him get attacked by something out by the dumpsters, but theyAnna Paquin: Sookie Stackhouse wouldn’t kill him off … right? Why would they have added that political plot twist last week where he went and visited the senator if they planned on whacking him? As the gay, tough-guy, drug dealer, he was some of the only real comic relief in the show and a character that had a tremendous “upside.” I don’t think we’ve seen the last of him.

Who is the hussy in the tight, red car that’s been taking care of Tara? What’s going on at that crib?

Why does Sam the Shape Shifter know her? Why does Sam’s safe look like Avon Barksdale’s? What the hell has he been up to and how do I get in on that?

The girl that Bill “made” needs to step up her game next season, because she is undoubtedly the weakest link. I know she’s new to the whole vampire game, but if we have to deal with her geighness all season next year, I’m going to be pissed.

It was a pretty good finale for a show that’s been kind of a roller coaster for me. Most episodes were good, a couple were great, but there were always a few scenes that are just a little too cheesy. The old man in the pie shop last week is an example. It just seemed kind of cliche and forced. Nit picking, I know, but every week seemed to have a moment or two that just didn’t seem to feel right. This is the first season, so I’ll just assume it’s growing pains. Alan Ball is a master craftsman, so I can’t really talk too much shit. With Six Feet Under and American Beauty under his belt, I think it’s safe to say he knows more about these things than I do.
