The Grateful Dead Are Going Back on Tour And They’re Coming to … Greensboro?

The Grateful Dead are back, kids. And yeah, it’s not the same (never has been, since Jerry Garcia died, obv) but still … Panic’s on hiatus, Phish is sold out, and String Cheese blows donk-c. So it’s something!

Plus, super awesome happy fun time bonus? They’re kicking the tour off in Greensboro! I know, right?

Under the banner, “An Evening With,” the trek will encompass 19 shows in 16 cities, kicking off April 12 in Greensboro, North Carolina, and wrapping up May 10 in Mountain View, California. The quartet will be joined by guitarist Warren Haynes and keyboardist Jeff Chimenti.

When The Dead announced this tour, Bob Weir released a statement. “We’ve got some unfinished business,” he said. Lesh goes a step further.

“We’ve got some unfinished music,” Lesh clarifies. “We’re all still evolving in our own ways. You can always improve your playing. Let’s see what kind of a goulash we can make out of it. Besides,” he adds, “I just got two new electric basses.”

Now, I know what you’re thinking: old dudes can’t rock. Well, that’s the beauty of the Dead. They don’t need to “rock” (although neither does Steely Dan, and someone should have put new vocal chords in Walter Becker’s corpse a few years ago) to be awesome. That’s what Warren Haynes is for. And drugs. See you there, brahs.

That’s none of your damn business. And I’ll thank you to stay out of my personal affairs.
