Duke’s Elliot Williams Needs a Passport for this Travel

by The Piler on February 23, 2009

I didn’t catch much of the Wake Forest-Duke game last night, because I was helping put my lady friend’s life back together after some jerkstore stole her purse Saturday night. More on that later. In the opening minutes of the game Duke freshman guard, Elliot Williams, got away with a travel that would make Tyler Hansbrough blush. Last I checked, there are three refs working a college basketball game and at least one is watching the man with the ball at all times. The producer of the above video counts 12 steps pre-dribble. I don’t know if there at that many, but a ton regardless. I bet my man John Clougherty’s getting a few phone calls on that one this morning in the ACC office.

Jebus Christ… That’s embarrassing.

Wow… thanks for the link to the Video. As a longtime Wake fan, I’m pretty used to the calls in Cameron, as is anyone else from an ACC school. The tiny ghetto gym and super nerd crowd definitely makes the refs think about the calls they make, perhaps subconsciously.

Dude you are fucking retarded. Yeah Williams traveled i was at the game and saw it. It should have been called. ACC refs blow ass and always have. They constantly call charges when they should be blocking fouls. Have you ever been to Cameron or Duke’s campus? To say its ghetto is fucking retarded. Yeah its small and lots of smart people go there but Duke’s campus is not ghetto. Durham sure is but not Duke. Don’t mention the fact that Gerald Henderson abused your team and you had 16 first half turnovers that must have been the refs fault i’m sure. Wake got a few questionable calls in that game it happens to all teams all over the ACC not just in Cameron.

I guess none of you basketball experts saw all the walks that both teams got away with. My first question would be, did Duke score on that possession? Wake scored quite a few baskets after BLATANT walks..I guess no one saw James Johnson(who happens to be a 24yr old Sophomore-maybe he should be at unc since they have had plenty of underclassmen in their mid 20s over the yrs) bank in a lucky three with a minute left..just as he dribble close to NBA range he picked his dribble up, fumbled the ball, dribbled two more times, then walked and let go of a three that banked off the glass and went in..that basket cut it to 4-6points(can’t remember). How in the hell can three refs not see that, especially at such a crucial part of the game? Will someone please watch Danny Green and Larry Drew with the ball? They walk as much as Tyler Spazzbro! Walking is out of control and never called. It’s a god damn joke. Now get off Duke’s back they get the short end of the stick a lot more times than not over the last 5yrs.

I’m with Dan, he was clearly just moving his pivot foot.

I call that dribble the cockroach stomp

This is all a tad ridiculous…In the efforts of full disclosure: I was raised a Dukie (die hard) and went to Wake Forest. There were blantantly obvious blown calls on both ends. Such is life in the ACC. Selah.

Now…for this prestegious and highly reputable “blahg” to highlight one play in a sea and season of “Doh!” Ref moments…really guys? Last I checked, weren’t the majority of the Founding Fathers here at brahsome State “get your puppies up” fans? Methinks I smell the haterade abrewing. Maybe if our coach donned the Kool-Aid man red blazer they’d be less apt to disguise their scruples as what otherwise are sour grapes. (Tounge firmly in cheek)

As far as the joker calling Cameron “ghetto”…the place is a carved wood and brass testament to all that is anti-ghetto. What do you want? A floor plan modeled after Philips Arena? Maybe a neon-lit scores table? An effing T-shirt cannon? If only they had a Kiss Cam, huh?

Face it guys, your Cindarella season in the early eighties was a looooong time ago. State’s the red headed step child of the conference. Forevermore.

Here’s hoping there’ll be another celebrity DUI or rampaging simian soon so these guys can get off Duke’s back and on to topical matters of importance. Enjoy the NIT.

Lets face it, there is no reason to discuss this play. 1) its over 2) it did not change the game 3) both of these teams are irrelevant on the national scene right now. If you think otherwise, come back in April and tell me then.

Cameron is a dump. Anyone who does not think so has not been there. The seats are small as hell, the aisles are too narrow, there are entire sections of seats that require you to pass 15 seated fans just to get to yours. Sure, they have some brass knobs. Sorry, that does not sugar coat the fact the place needs to be torn down.

I was there for the Duke/UNC game this year when K turned off the AC. What a joke. It was about 100 degrees in there, I sweated through my shirt by halftime. The best part is his plan backfired in the second half when his boys were clearly gassed and exhausted. That is called gamesmanship coach and you are good enough to be above that. You made an entire stadium miserable to try to get an advantage and it backfired. Creep.

WW February 24, 2009 at 10:30 am

Why would turning off the AC help a team playing 6 or 7 guy against a team that plays 8, 9, 10 guys? Get a clue, Johnny!

I’m 6′5” and have a lot less room at Cameron than I do the RBC.

WW February 24, 2009 at 10:35 am

Oops! Meant to say I have a lot less room at the RBC than just about anywhere. I hate that place. I’d go to a lot more games @ Reynolds(which was designed to be a carbon copy of Cameron with the endzones extended to seat more people for bigtime tournaments(dixie classic, ACC tourney, etc)..Reynolds/Everette Case are largely responsible for bigtime college basketball.
